Time from April to October annually is the low season in Phu Quoc island. It's also an ideal time for people to explore this island. Here are some notes you should consider before a trip to Phu Quoc in low season.
1. Some features of island in low season
Phu Quoc island looks more easeful and peaceful at this time. In high season, the local people work for 6 months, then they stop working and returning with their fishing job and housework. Don't be surprised if you come to Phu Quoc and see no tourists and some signs writing "See you in October”.
It's quite strange for a touristy place as Phu Quoc, right?
However, this is the flawless time for backpackers to explore and experience the daily life of locals as well as enjoy the noiseless atmosphere and get close to the natural diversity of this small town.
2. How to get to Phu Quoc
That fastes way to get to Phu Quoc island is traveling by airplane. At present, there are two airline firms as Vietnam airlines and Vietjet air offering flights to Phu Quoc from Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi or Rach Gia. It takes you just from 30 minutes to 2 hours to get Phu Quoc depending on your departure place.

From Rach Gia or Ha Tien, you also can choose to travel to Phu Quoc island by express boats. It takes about 3 hours to get to the island. This will be an interesting trip by boat; however, it can be quiet tough if you transport in tough weather. There are 6 turns a day transporting passengers to the island but there is no departure available in bad weather.
3. Activities on Phu Quoc island
Phu Quoc island is about 50 km in length and the largest place is about 25 km in width and it has the road system connecting towns and communes on the island. At present, the main road system is being upgraded and expanded, therefore, apart from walking round Duong Dong area, you can explore the island by motorbike.
Generally, low season can be compared as rainy season. However, in Phu Quoc, it's not rainy at all time. There are also days the weather is pretty good and suitable for outdoor actiivities.

Coral diving: Diverse marine eco-system of An Thoi archipelago in the south of Phu Quoc or Mong Tay island, Doi Moi island and Thay Boi island in the north of Phu Quoc are the ideal places for tourists to explore ocean world. You can take part in this activity on sunny day.
Primeval forest discovery: If you are an adventurer, this is the best thing for you.The ecological sanctuary rising from Ham Ninh mountain will keep you busy and entertained. It is an ideal place for activities like picnic, climbing, exploring primeval forest and spring baths.
Pepper garden: Learn traditional method of growing pepper to have a special kind of pepper of the locals. Tourist can also buy pepper growed at this gaderns.

When it comes to food specialties in Phu Quoc, you are supposed to try out as many dishes as you can. You can ask the locals for a list of seafood and other specialty on the island. Of course, enjoy foods in this time of year is always cheaper than in peak season.
4. What to do in Phu Quoc at night
Dinh Cau night market: It is a small and interesting market which offers full of food and drinks, clothes and souvenirs as well.
Eating snails and seafoods: You can taste foods made of snail at Trung Duong restaurant and then take a cup of coffe at a floating shop (Hai Tram coffee shop-a special float shop on the river near Hung Vuong street)

Eating goat meat: You can try this dish at Mum restaurant or at 7 Tau restaurant, both of restaurants are on 30/4 street and near Zen restaurant.
Enjoy coffee: At a rainy night, you can go to one of some unique and attractive coffee shops to enjoy Phu Quoc coffee and hang out with your beloved people.
Watch beautiful sunset: Though Phu Quoc is famous its beaches, it's also contry-renowned as a paradise for sunset lovers. The falling sun at yellow-reddish color, the wind said to sing in soft whisper and soundless surroundings are all you have for a marvelous sunset view in Phu Quoc island.
Squid fishing: When the night falls, squids go hunting for food. It's perfect time to go squid fishing. People are normally used to catching fish, not fishing some squids, so tourists find it exciting to go catch squids on their own.
