Particularly, Koh Rong Island and Koh Rong Samloem Island are the two biggest and the most famous ones. Both of the islands are well-known for the deep blue seawater and white sandy beaches.

How to get to Koh Rong Samloem


There are several transportations to Koh Rong from Sihanoukville, such as a helicopter, private boat, and ferries. However, the cheapest and most popular way to get there is by one of the Koh Rong ferries. The journey to Koh Rong can vary from 20 minutes to 3 hours depending on means of transport.

The boat departs at 9h30 and will stop for passengers to dive for 40minutes. You will arrive in Koh Rong Samloem Island at 1p.m. In the return trip, you will have a chance to experience a big 3-floor boat and this boat departs at 3h30p.m. You can stay on the island how long you want and remember to save the passenger coupon for the return trip.

Tickets can be bought at the Serendipity Beach Pier, or at over 300 hotels, restaurants and travel agents around SihanoukVille.

Getting around Koh Rong Samloem Island

Getting around the island is by foot or by boat only at this point. You can walk along the beaches, on jungle paths, or rent a boat to take you around, starting at $20

Kayaking

Kayaks can be rented from The Beach Island Resort. Rental fee is $10.00 for the first hour and $5.00 for each additional hour. You can take up some organized tours from 8.00am to 1.00pm explore mangroves trees, the rocky island, a fishing village, a white sandy beach and the beautiful natural waterfall. The cost for the 4-hour tour is $ 25.00

Jungle Trekking

Paths crossing from one side of the island to the other offer great trekking opportunities to explore resident wildlife on the island.

The Beach Island Resort offers an organized 2-hour guided trek that departs at 4.30pm at $ 5.00

Travel Tips:

  • There are no ATMs on the island so don’t forget to bring enough cash to last you.
  • These small black flies like to bite and leave itchy red marks that can irritate for days. You should bring along some good strong repellant with DEET and apply it before you hit the beach.
  • In high season (starting November 1), you should book accommodation in advance. Prices are high and fill up fast
  • It is recommended to reserve your Speed Ferry return tickets. You can only buy open returns on the mainland.
