Why Yong Kang 15 is special ?

Located in the exact same spot that the legendary Ice Monster once stood, Yong Kang 15 has attracted its own fair share of fans around the world. Widely promoted as one of the must- visits for one of the most popular desserts of Taiwan, Yong Kang 15 was overly populated when we arrived at the dessert store. It was obvious that an unpleasant inconvenience of the store would definitely be the severe lack of seats in that particularly small area. Another drawback that one might be concerned about, could probably be her rather limited selection of available choices.

Judging by how well- received the dessert store’s signature Mango Avalanche was, we concured that we had to follow the craze. The ice was shaved to the right fineness and in contrary to the similar versions that I have tried in Singapore, I thought that much of the distinct sweetness came from the generous servings of fresh Mango fruit. The condensed milk was not so apparent while the mango puree was drizzled to the right amount so that one would not be able to distinguish too much of the artificial mango flavor.

Another best- selling dessert, the vibrant colors from the strawberries, kiwi and mango were just as appealing as how fresh and delightful the cut fruits tasted. There was a right mix of sweet and sour tang from the concoction of fruits, which accompanied the shaved ice till perfection. The Mango sorbet that settled atop, was a gratifying finishing touch to the dessert.

How to get to Yong Kang 15?

Currently, the nearest MRT Station is either Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Station or Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station but either one is too far to walk from so it is highly recommended to take a cab. Lookout for Dongmen Station Exit 5, opening in Sept 2012, which will only be a 10-min walk away.
