A very nice part of Tokyo. It is a 30 minute walk from Ueno Park. A very picturisque part of Tokyo, with cafes and shops tucked away in narrow by-lanes. Stumbled upon a very nice cafe, in a traditional setting, where guests sit on tatatmis. Met some very friendly regular patrons. The YannakaGinza market is also worth visiting. It has some nice foodstalls, a shop selling traditional japanese tea and japanese tea sets, chopsticks etc. See pictures.

Fantastic little pocket of Tokyo that modernisation doesn't seem to have touched. Loved the little shopping and cafe strip and also the cemetery was fascinating

The easiest way to get to Yanaka cemetary is to take the train to Nippori Station -- the cemetary is literally across the tracks, via a pedestrian bridge. Very easy! The cemetary is pretty big, it would take a couple hours to see it all. We walked thru about half of it, and then stopped for a while at Tenno-ji Temple. It was very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our visit.
