Check out this walking street on a saturday evening. Buy local products or just enjoy a stroll down this buzzing street market.
street local traditional northern Thai style shopping market, every Saturday evening
We visited the other night market as well and preferred this one because it was less touristy overall and in the tourist oriented parts had more interesting handicrafts. For example, I bought a small purse in a gorgeously patterned material and saw nothing like it anywhere else in all of Thailand. There is also lots of food available--from a sit-down meal to a walk-along snack. We tried a variety and it was all tasty and fresh. The crowds do swell as the evening goes on. We (mostly) considered that part of the fun, but if you don't like crowds, you should definitely come as early as possible.Overall, a fun and memorable evening.
We were probably the 5% of less non Thai participants at this community fair. There is a huge area on the side of the street with a dedicated 100m food alley, bouncing castle and trampoline for kids, performing stage and a mass dance performance watched by diners enjoying their snacks/meal. Great atmosphere, crowded by manageable for young kids. There's a good proportion of stall holders who are amateurs with unique wares.
Come early if you don't like crowds. It just kept getting more and more crowded until it was shoulder to shoulder bottle neck and we were feeling stuck and couldn't get out! Other than that it was awesome. Good prices, great street food, especially the Pad Thai omelette stand and Kao Soi stands.

Go before 7pm to beat the crowds. The waffles are good but try to get one that's just come off the waffle-maker and is still steaming hot! The banana/chocolate ones are sooo tasty.
