Why Wat Thep Rattan Temple and Cave is special ?

Considered one of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in southern Thailand, it sits atop a hill with beautiful views. A virtually unknown temple with just a handful of monks. A giant open cave, and another walk-through cave with bats (harmless). The climb to the top is a bit steep, but visitors say it is well worth the effort. Inside you can shake moon blocks and fortune sticks and view a large display of paintings. Once back outside, you will see the enormous Goddess of Compassion, and in the distance, a large golden Buddha. The temple is about a 1-1/2 hour drive from Ao Nang.

Well worth a quick stop at this lovely Krabi Buddhist temple set between limestone karst formations.

How to get to Wat Thep Rattan Temple and Cave?

You go up the same road as the road leading to Khao Phanombencha National park. This is the same park with Huay Toh (Huai To, on some signs) waterfall. Go up the road leading to Huay Toh waterfall. At about 2km you’ll cross a very small bridge. Within 200m will be a small school on your right side. Start looking on the left for a road that looks like the one in the video. It’s a gradual left turn that goes straight back into rubber tree plantations and a section where they dynamite a limestone karst for material to make concrete.
