Why Wat Khili is special ?
Temple of the Golden Mountain, built during the 18th century by Chao Kham Sattha, who came from the northern Xieng Kouang province and built his temple in a style reminiscent of those found in the mountains close to the Plain of Jars. The building of the wat reinstated the relationship between Xieng Kouang and Luang Prabang.
Wat Sop is said to have been built by King Theng Kham, who reigned from 1479-86, to commemorate the death of his father, King Sao Takaphat Phene Phao, who reigned from 1438-79. King Sao Takaphat was killed in battle. Wat Sop has been renovated a few times since then. Its gable is decorated with gold leafy design.
