Why Vừng ơi mở ra Cafe is special ?
Café Vung (Vừng ơi mở ra) is one of Saigon’s well-hidden cafes which located on the first floor of an old, decaying French villa on a street known for its many cafes near the city centre. Accessed off a dead-end alleyway, through a street-kitchen and up a narrow staircase, this is a very private, cosy café not far from District 1. The ceiling is hung with undulating strips of patterned material like the interior of a kasbah. Walls are adorned with prints, etchings and sketches depicting anything from historical figures and events to movie stars. The tiled floor and walls are left deliberately grubby for that ‘artist studio’ look. Live music nights by candlelight are an intimate experience with piano, guitar, vocals and violin filling this small café.

Tips for you
We visited the Hidden Cafe as part of our Vespa Night Tour. Basically local artists go there and either sing, play an instrument, whatever their skill is. You have to sit in silence and enjoy your drink so you don't stay for more than 1 or 2 but it is a very interesting place and full of locals. We were told that only locals and Vespa Tour clients know about it - oops, just let the cat out of the bag!
Unique café experience. Great intimate atmosphere for couples. I really enjoyed the instruments and the variety of singers that performed.
