What to explore at Tram Chim National Park?

The total area of Tram Chim National Park is more than 7500 ha, housing as many as 200 types of birds which make up ¼ the bird population in Vietnam. Some of these birds have been put in the Red Book for a long time. The most typical and most well-known one is the Red-crown Crane, one of the last 15 crane pieces in the world. Normally, a crane has a height of more than 1.7 m, gray feathers, long neck, red head and wide wings. Unlike other types of bird in the region, these cranes only find food on land. During the rainy season when the level of water in Dong Thap rise continuously, they have to look for food in other places. Thus, you can only see these birds there from December to June.

Tips for you

  • For bird-watching, you should bring your own binoculars.
    What to bring
  • Birds nest here from about December to May; from June to November they migrate to northwest Cambodia, so schedule your visit to coordinate with the birds’ travel itinerary if you want to see them.
    Timming
  • The birds are early risers, so morning visits are advised. During the day, they're engaged in the important business of eating.
    Timming
  • From Tam Nong it takes another hour by small boat (around 2,700,000d) to reach the area where the cranes live and another hour to return.
    Transportation
  • Seeing these birds, however, requires a considerable commitment (time, effort and money), so it’s strictly for enthusiasts.
    What to know
  • There are a few rudimentary guesthouses in Tam Nong if you decide to stay late or hit the park early.
    What to know
  • Tam Nong shuts down early so if you want to eat dinner here, make arrangements before 5pm.

Went here just before CNY with family. The park is a short drive from Hong Ngu where we were based, there are a number of OK hotels in this town and the place is lively enough although early visited by Westerners. The park has a wel set out base from which the various trips depart, toilet f ,acilities are basic so steel yourself. Boats seat up to 10 and life jackets are provided. We saw a really wide variety of birds but sadly not the Sarus cranes we had hoped for, apparently we were a month early. Nonetheless it was a really enjoyable trip. I would have styed longer than the 3 hours we had booked , there are 8 options with differing prices. Will go back again next trip to Vietnam well worth the effort to visit a really special site of world status (RAMSAR)

the first i say that it requires a considerable commitment : time, money. so,it's really for bird enthusiasts only . from centre of cao Lanh,it takes around 40km to come the sanctuary(motorbike cost 200,000 vnd for go and return) ,. you have to rent a motoboat at here to explore the forest and belong to your route choice, the boat cost varies different 700,000 vnd to 1.000.000 vnd .the best time to visit the Tram Chim National Park is on the flood season(october to february)to see these birds lay eggs or feed their babies. there are 05 rooms to overnight at here (200.000 vnd to 250.000 vnd)..if you are really love the birds life, i recomment to visit Bang Lang Bird Sanctuary which must be better everything and more birds to see in Thot Not,Can Tho city
