Make sure you take off your shoes before you walk into the restaurant! I forgot to this, and the chef gave me a mean look while demanding that I take my shoes off in broken English. Oops. As a foreigner who doesn't read Japanese, this restaurant is hard to spot off the street. We took a taxi to the restaurant, which saved us a lot of time. The restaurant is small, quiet, and nicely decorated in traditional Japanese decor; a stark difference from the busy street that it's on. It offers three different set menus. The tofu was delicious, and beautifully plated. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant was empty at the time we arrived, but they highly recommended reservations, especially for dinner. Kyoto is known for tofu--this restaurant is a great place to try.

Tofu kaiseki that's beautifully presented and is a unique taste experience. The tofu is the best I've had with textures ranging from soft and creamy to jelly-like.
