Today I had a liesurely lunch at The Srand, the restaurant at the lovely Knai Bang Chatt, overlooking the Gulf of Siam in Kep-Sur-Mer, Cambodia. Arriving straight after a session at the Spa (please look for my review) I was seated at a table with a great view across the water. The Strand has one of those menus that makes choice difficult, and I settled on the crab cake salad. Four little crab cakes, perched on slivers of lemongrass, served with a mixed leaf salad and segments of pomelo and mandarin. Lite, tasty, and reasonably Khmer-inspired. I don't drink during the day, particularly in the heat, so I washed it down with a Cinderella (yes - Cinderella) which was a delicious blend of citrus juices. Not in the least hungry, but unable to resist, I ordered dessert of pineapple and coconut spring rolls which came served with a scoop of very nice pineapple sorbet and a sprig of mint to garnish. The Strand was not particularly busy, although a few family groups arrived as I was finishing my meal. The staff were happy for me to take a long time over my meal (two hours !) which makes a nice change from restaurants at home. Cost including tip (optional in Cambodia) and a cappucino was $US25 - expensive for Cambodia, but a worthwhile treat. Highly recommended.
