Why Thanh Nam Fishing Village is special ?
The Thanh Nam fishing Village (also called Con Chai) is shaped by the beautiful Thu Bon River. Fishermen have come here for a long time to cast their nets and catch prawns, crabs and fish. The fishing village is still active nowadays, even with the appearance of modern fishing ships going to far fishing areas in the East Sea. The village is just 3 km away f-rom Hoi An ancient town and it can be accessed by boat and bicycle. Visiting the Fishing Village is an unforgettable and enriching experience for visitors, especially for those who live in modern skyscraper cities and are eager to experience a completely different lifestyle for a while, no mater how short or long they decide it to be.
What to explore at Thanh Nam Fishing Village?
Visitors can stay and work with the local people and learn how to catch fish by the local traditional way. The tourists will experience the daily life of a typical fisherman, learn how to lift the big fishing net out of the water and how to use the little basket boats called "thung chai" to get fish out to the net. The folk here are friendly, photogenic and willing to let you participate. You can capture some great photos of the local life in this quaint village. Drink coffee with the villagers at one of the many family outlets nearby.
How to get to Thanh Nam Fishing Village?
Thanh Nam is for now (a bridge is apparently on the way) only accessible from Hoi An by ferry or by taking a huge loop around Highway One, taking a difficult to find right exit road near My Son.
The 10,000 VND ferries that go from Cua Dai harbour take you directly to the fishing port, which links with the coastal road around the perimeter of the island. To access the road, drive straight up from the dock and take a left.
