I did this on my last day in Japan and am glad I did. It is lovely and peaceful – as long as the speakers on the playing fields are off. They play some weird, motivational music in random intervals. The entrance is via the same gate as the Museum of fine art. I didn’t realise that till I had walked halfway around the outside of the park and bumped into a lovely little garden of a restaurant on the “back wall”. The ticket entitles you to re-entry for the whole day. The garden has a couple of ponds with very lively fish and tortoises. There is an observation shelter and the long legged birds going about their business in and around the big pond make a good job of pretending that they can’t see you. There is a little stream coming down a hill, trees on islands, little bridges and stepping stones, it really is beautiful. There were also a few people painting and sketching. I would have happily bought a watercolour picture that was in the making that afternoon. Overall there very not a lot of visitors, it was very quiet despite it being a Sunday and the garden being in the back of the museum and close to the zoo where a lot of people seemed to go. With Osaka being busy and noisy this garden is the perfect antidote to tourist stresses.
