Our driver and unofficial guide suggested a visit to the PAGODA as the locals call it and honest if we did not have a few hours to spare enroute from Berastagi to Medan, we may not have visited this place. That would have been a great loss...... Taman Alam Lumpini as the place is officially called is the Buddhist religious centre. The stupa (fashioned after the Shwedagon in yangon) is really impressive and so is the entire building. No entrance fee is charged and the primary requirement to enter the main hall is the removal of footwear. There are four Buddha statues inside and one can move around the hall freely, allocating time as required, for the prayer and meditation. Access to the pagoda is via unpaved road but with refreshing views of the strawberry, cabbage, chilly and avocado plantation the whole trip is well worth the time. Truly an amazing structure built on human faith.
It's about 2 hours far (by car) from Medan. Beside enjoying the beauty from The Replica of Pagoda Shwedagon, you can also take much of fascinating scenes from Jembatan Cinta (Love Bridge).
