Why Sung Hung Pagoda is special ?

Sung Hung Pagoda has a very distinctive architectural structure which was unique for an ancient pagoda. Its door heads to the North. The pagoda is surrounded with huge trees and based on a ladder structure which goes higher in every step. The pagoda has a huge impressive “triangular gate” which leads to a white statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva (Goddess of Mercy) in the middle of the yard. Inside, there is the main hall that is decorated very carefully. The altar is in the main hall, in which the top-level sits the three Buddhas: Amitabha in the middle, Mahasthamaprapta bodhisattva on the right and Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva on the left. Behind the statues is a famous masterpiece titled “Flying dragon” by artist Cao Sanh.



There are also many other decorations in the pagoda, including “Dai Hong Chung” - a great bell and many engraved sentences written in Chinese about Buddhist philosophy.


What to explore at Sung Hung Pagoda?

You will experience the peaceful ambience under the old banyan tree at Sung Hung pagoda. This pagoda is surrounded by huge old trees. The main entrance conforms to a traditional three-gate style .

Explore the structure inside of this pagoda. The statue of the Goddess Quan Am Bo Tat overlooks the centre of the courtyard over a small lotus pond. In the main hall, Tam The Buddha is placed on the highest altar. On the wall is a painting depicting Monk Duong Tang’s journey to the West. Behind this is the shrine that worships Gautama Buddha’s ascendancy to Heaven.

Go along to see the pagoda worships the national hero Nguyen Trung Truc. In the main hall places an altar on which the 3 Buddhas sit: Amitabha in the middle, Mahasthamaprapta bodhisattva on the right and Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva on the left.

How to get to Sung Hung Pagoda?

From Duong Dong Town go along the Tran Phu and 30/4 Street, then turn left on Tran Hung Dao Street, Sung Hung Pagodalocated right on the end of road.

Oldest temple on the island in the centre of Duong Dong town on Phu Quoc Island.Inside is very beautiful with lacquer and trimmings of gold throughout.Outside there is a couple of statues and a fountain, very colourful.Worth a visit.
