Why Soul Food Mahanakorn is special ?
Soul Food Mahanakorn started of with a pretty simple idea: to serve authentic regional Thai food - mostly the sort eaten on the street in comfortable setting. Since dreaming up this joint we've changed things a bit - we're part cocktal bar and part Thai restaurant with a solid wine list too. We like to think we play pretty good music. And because we care about our food and where it comes from, we source many of our ingredients from small farms in the northeast of Thailand. Our rice is organic and fair trade, our meats free-range, and our menu is seasonal with daily specials.
But enough about all that. It's supposed to be satisfying, fun and delicious. An eating and drinking experience with some soul. That's the point.

Tips for you
Drinks where as big a choice as the food. Both were fantastic.Very small and busy cafe, people kept coming and being turned away. Recommend booking even though it seems so cafe like .friendly and very diverse. Specials a good way to go.
This place is an absolute diamond find. I simply can't comprehend why anyone could objectively give it any less that 5 stars for food and value, based on our experience this evening. If may not be a traditional Thai restaurant, but if that's what you're after - you're in Bangkok for heavens sake, go and find one! Our experience was genuinely almost without fault. We ordered two cocktails, both fresh and delicious, a beef brisket noodle dish, morning glory, an interesting sounding banana flower and chicken salad and a burmese pork belly curry. The food was absolutely first class - fresh, delicate, inventive and perfectly seasoned. I commented midway through the meal that this possibly wouldn't appeal to traditional Thai food fans and my partner responded that this is because it's 21st century Thai and south East Asian flavours - you're unlikely to get coach loads of tourists or die hard Thai diners here, but instead you get a young, foodie crowd who are eager to try something modern and different. I have to say the food was so incredibly delicious that I ruined a t- shirt and had to resort to wearing my napkin as a bib. Should also be mentioned that it's fantastic value - about £40 for 4 courses and 3 cocktails. The service is brisk and friendly without being intrusive and the overall feel of the restaurant (which is set out over 2 floors) is laid back and ever so slightly trendy. Overall i'd say that the name of the restaurant sums it up - it's a fusion of Thai and soul food: the very essence of Thai flavours concentrated down into unctuous, mouthwatering bowls of delight. Our favourite dish was the pork belly curry - served with brown rice and watermelon this was an absolute taste revelation for me. There were at least half a dozen other dishes on the menu which caught my eye so we may well head back for round 2 before we head home (I'll take a spare t-shirt next time though!).
