I recently visited Singapore zoo with my two children agreed 13 and 11. We had limited time on our two day Singapore stop over and had considered giving the zoo a miss but we were all glad we made the effort to visit. We travelled to the zoo by MRT and bus from the city and the entire trip took just over an hour each way, however it is a pleasant trip and a nice way to see some of the Singapore suburbia and countryside. The zoo is very well laid out and lovely to wander around. The enclosures are mostly fence free using other barriers to contain the animals. My personal favourites, the orangutans, have a fabulous enclosure and were literally climbing above our heads on strategically placed ropes, etc. Zoos can be a bit boring but I would recomend a visit to Singapore zoo.

A bit far from town but definitely worth a visit if you have kids with you. We did the night safari and that was really well done.

Awesome Zoo! I've been to the Singapore Zoo a few times and can honestly say that each time I go, I experience something unique. I have never been to a zoo that has so many opportunities to directly interact with the animals. For example, I remember being appalled that those little lemur things right when you walk in are not in a cage, they are just free to play in that one tree without restriction....I was tempted to reach up and take one home with me. There are also various shows and feeding times, both of which are listed clearly on the map pamphlets given at the entrance. The shows are pretty cheesy, and the tricks kind of lame, but then again I've never seen a show with so many different animals before and so much crowd participation. The feeding times are also pretty cool, for a small fee (I think S$5) you can feed the giraffes!!, etc. SOOOO AWESOME. Make sure you bring a friend (or a maid....everyone in south east asia seems to have a maid) to take pictures of you. Food options inside the Zoo are limited to KFC and the Zoo Cafeteria. The food in the cafeteria is surprisingly good and reasonably priced (a meal for under $10 in a tourist attraction is unheard of in the the US). However, you can bring in food and drinks if you're super frugal. I mean if you're wealthy enough to have a maid, you should be able to afford to buy lunch there. Obviously, I'm still bitter that I can't hire a maid -___- Anyways, I think the Singapore Zoo is great! Definitely a must-see in Singapore.

Check out the fragile forest - many people walk past as it's not obvious from the path - you walk around inside the enclosure with fruit bats, sloths, lemurs, deer, parrots and butterflies.
