Why Sheung Wan is special ?
It is part of the Central and Western District. The name can be variously interpreted as Upper District (occupying relatively high ground compared to Central and Wan Chai), or Gateway District (perhaps a reference to the location where the British first entered and occupied Hong Kong).
Sheung Wan was one of the earliest settled places by the British, and belonged to the historical Victoria City. The site of the original occupation of Hong Kong Island by British forces in 1842 was at Possession Street, between Queen's Road Central and Hollywood Road. Today, Sheung Wan boasts a delightful mix of old and new, where contemporary residences sits next to low-rise tenements and trendy restaurants intermingled with traditional stores.

What to explore at Sheung Wan?
Start with the historic Western Market, which offers an array of handicraft shops nestled inside an Edwardian-style mall. To the west is Dried Seafood Street, Wing Lok Street and Bonham Strand West, where locals head to purchase dried abalone, scallops and other pungent products for soups and tonics. Make sure to drop into Koh Shing Street, where you’ll witness the ancient practice of Chinese medicine in action.
To the east of Western Market, you can also browse the antiques shops and curios on and around Cat Street, before wrapping up your day by perusing the designer household accessories and hip restaurants in the shabby colonial chic of Gough Street.

Reviews
I love this place...you can get lost for hours whether looking for a place to eat, going to a hip bar, buying stuffs like calligraphy or art supplies, old vintage trinkets, curios and decors, china, or food! If you're into arts, there are galleries that teach Chinese painting for a day! You can either go there via MTR and get off at the Sheung Wan station, just one station from Central. Just stroll through these roads; Hollywood Rd., Wing Lok, Bonham, Tai Ping Shan, and especially Upper Lascar Row.
A good mix of tradition and western. Lots of cafes popped up and it's a great place to do cafehopping!
