Why Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo is special ?

At the Samui Aquarium & Tiger Show, get up close to an array of marine life, colourful birds and exotic wildlife all in one stop. This family-oriented attraction certainly has enough to keep the kids entertained on an afternoon outing.

The aquarium features mostly marine life native to the Gulf of Thailand. Its series of large tanks are filled with a range of marine life including nurse sharks, leopard sharks, manta rays, catfish and many kinds of tropical fish, and there is an area where visitors can feed the sea turtles.

In the zoo, among the animals on display are tigers, leopards, otters and monkeys plus numerous colourful birds including parrots, hornbills and sea eagles. Animal trainers put on daily tiger, bird, and sea lion shows. Those who have been to more cutting-edge wildlife attractions in other parts of the world may find this one a bit dated in its focus on animal entertainment over education. However, for some thrilling up-close views of some of the world’s most exotic and elusive animals, Samui Aquarium & Tiger Zoo is the place to go.

What to explore at Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo?

At the zoo, the main attraction is the Bengal tigers and leopards, which provide some thrilling displays of strength and agility in the daily live shows. There’s also an opportunity to take your photograph with some of them for an extra charge.

The best way to see fish and other sea creatures is, of course, by diving or snorkelling off Samui or the famed Koh Tao, but Samui Aquarium offers an alternative for those with limited time or ability to dive, and for families travelling with young children. The aquarium's design is modelled after an old fishermen's village, giving visitors a taste of history as well as an interesting array of marine life to observe.

Samui Tiger Zoo is so much more than tigers and leopards. There are horses, sea lions, otters, small mammals, reptiles and a large avery of exotic birds, including South American Macao, cockatoo, a variety of colorful parrots, Pelican, Toucan, Sea Eagles, Red Eagles and many more.

Fully expecting a run-down local zoo effort my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to see how well the animals were looked after. The highlight for us was the tiger photo and otters. This attraction is quite a pleasant experience, but don't expect a Lions of Longleat open plan safari park, it is what it says on the tin. It is very much geared up for younger members of the family, even going so far as to promote environmental issues by training the otters and macaws to retrieve plastic water bottles and putt them in the bin!The down side was the unintelligible version of English that the presenters (bless them!) narrated the shows with, that said my efforts at speaking Thai remain to be improved!

Samui Aquarium and tiger zoo will leave you with mixed feelings. On one hand the species of fish and water life is abundant and very informative. But on the other hand, tigers, leopards and some exotic birds are treated to harsh treatments during their performances. The tigers are drugged for photography and the little cub is barely able to get any milk from the bottle before someone would come to get their pictures clicked.

Highly recommend a visit! The Tiger Zoo is a must see and 'do' take photos with the baby and adult tigers and remember to see the tiger show and the bird show. Remember to take photos with the birds and parrots too.The aquarium is average but a great highlight is when you feed the turtles and fish, the seal show and the photos later with the kissing seal.Great for all ages!
