Tips for you
Often mistaken for the similar Padang cuisine, Garuda serves Minang food. The cooking style and ingredients are almost same, thus the inter-changed use of terms. Garuda is chain of authentic Minang restaurants found round Medan and other parts of Indonesia, and as far (near) as Singapore. Food served in all branches are similar, and you can get the same taste, service and price at all branches. We found the food nice and tasty, with some points to note: 1. most food has more salty level compared to other Asean food in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore. 2. they curries are always laden with coconut milk, some might not find it appetizing, OK for asians 3. if you are adventures and money is not an issue, go for "Hidang" style, up to 20 items can be served on your table. Although you can be spoilt for choices, most of the time you'll waste 2/3 of the food served. you are charged for all items served/touched. so watch out. 4. if you are not a big eater, and just want eat small quantity, walk over to the food counter and ask them to serve you on the plate, then you can walk around and ask for the portions to be placed on your plate. this way you control what and how much served and charged. if you do this, you can ask them to bill separately, because combined bills for many patrons can be 'rounded' up, if you know what I mean. this is what you say "hidang nasi atas pinggan pak, saya pilih item, bil asing-asing" overall is a standard, clean and good place to eat. their juices are also very good. remember, everything put on your table is charged, so if you don't want some items that is presumed 'complimentary', they can always remove them, with a smile.
Super addicted. Ayam goreng is the best.
