Why Presidential Palace is special ?

The Presidential Palace is a well-known landmark for its imposing yet elegant beau arts-style architecture complete with tall colonnades and shaded balconies. The building is surrounded by well-manicured lawns and gardens and fenced off by tall walls and a wrought iron gate.

The Presidential Palace is not to be confused with the official home of the Lao president, which is located in the Vientiane suburb of Ban Phonthan. This magnificent building is lit up in the evening and offers a great opportunity for night photography although a long lens may be needed.

The Presidential Palace finally opened its doors in 1986 and even then only as a venue for government functions and ceremonies. The building is closed to the public.a

This building is located along one of the main streets running parallel with the Mekong River. The palace is heavily gated and surrounded by fence, you have to peek through the fence to get a glimpse of this beautiful building. The compound is large, neat and clean. There was absolutely no movement of people or vehicles inside the compound.I did not spend much time here, as we are not allowed to enter the premises.

If you're visiting some of the surrounding wats, then you'll pass by this place. Inconsequential since you cannot go in. Just some architectural eye candy.

Can't go in. Have to look thru the fence. If you happen to be going by, take a brief look but that's about it.
