Why Pratunam Market is special ?

Pratunam Market is a major market selling clothes, shoes, and fashion accessories at wholesale prices. Enter the small alleys and jam-packed small streets and you will find yourself in the middle of a clothes-maze. Prices are very cheap, and most shops offer retail prices for single pieces.

Located at the intersection of Ratchaprop and Petchburi roads (next to Amari Watergate Hotel), Pratunam Wholesale Market is filled with shops and tiny stalls flowing over to the sidewalks and extending all the way to Baiyoke Towers I and Baiyoke Towers II on Ratchaprarop Soi 3.

What to explore at Pratunam Market?

More than a shopping experience, the market offers an immersion in the local way of life – vendors working their sewing machines, packing and unpacking orders, carting trolleys up and down the narrow aisles, and shouting gossip at each other for lack of a better thing to do. It offers a stark glimpse into what shopping used to be like before air-conditioned malls.

Shops and vendor stalls at Pratunam Market display all kinds of clothes, from shorts, T-shirts, formal evening dresses, suits, winter jackets to bizarre outfits and costumes. The section closer to Petchaburi Road has a large concentration of fancy dress and embroidered costumes (think sequins, feathers and beads).

Deeper in, closer to Baiyoke Tower I, the collection becomes less fancy but more suitable for everyday wear. Modern fashion, such as jeans, bikinis, funny T-shirts and safari pants are found in the aisles just opposite the entrance of Baiyoke Suite Hotel.

Across from Pratunam Market, Baiyoke Tower I offers five floors of similar clothing and a good handful of shops selling accessories such as leather totes, belts, faux jewelry, women’s shoes and baseball caps. The building is air-conditioned, thus making it a nice escape from the midday heat.

This took a little bit of finding and once there, a little bit of working out where to walk. This market is set on the footpath of one of the major roads, so once you're on one side, it's hard to get over the other unless you go on one of the overpass foot paths. However, once you're there, you won't come home without bags and bags of cheap stuff you 'can't live without.'We had some confusion with the taxi driver about Platinum shopping mall v pratunam market. Some call this the 'wholesale market.' But you can buy single items, no problem, still very cheap. This market runs along the side of the main road, and also in the block behind it, in a mind boggling rabbit warren of small shops and holes in the wall. Enter at your peril, you may never find your way out...lol. This time we stuck to the main drag. Lean-to tents over hand the footpath to protect it from rain, and it can get very hot and humid under the tents, though it's shady. No worries, buy a fan!! and every now and then pop into one of the 'real shops' aloppng the street, and take a breather in the cool.My family loved it here - I have teen boys and a husband, and all of us found things we loved.Great place to buy fake name brand thongs/flip flops, handbags, purses and wallets, (I bought a great handbag, albeit vinyl, for only $3!!!!) Great for sunglasses, reading glasses, hair stuff, trikets, souvenirs, sarongs, thai fabric, earrings, thai handicrafts, t shirts, shorts, dresses, other clothes, belts....If you love really cheap stuff, and don't care if they're not name brand, this is the place for you. It was the cheapest market we found, and gets even cheaper if you buy more than one. For example we all 4 of us wanted thongs.flip flops. One pair was 150baht. 2 pairs were 125 ea 3 pairs 100 ea and we got 4 pairs for 80 ea. That's about Aud 2.70.You really do need to bargain if you want REALLY cheap. But of course you do't have to.It's pretty easy to get a taxi or tuk tuk around here, there are plenty of them, but as with most markets they'll try to charge extra for the tourist if you let them. Be firm or move on.I wouldn't go back to Bangkok without going back to this market. It's really worthwhile.Nearby are Siam Paragon, Diamond World, Central World and other large shopping malls, you can always pop into one of those afterwards to cool down and get a drink.

We decided to visit the market early in the morning and it was great! The things were really cheap and it gets a little complicated walking inside and it's super crowded even though it was about 7 or 8am only. It's not air conditioned but it's worth it to wake up early to go. Mostly ladies stuff and mostly they sell things for wholesale meaning for 3 pieces and above, you get the wholesale price. Don't bother to bargain as the prices are already very cheap.

Pratunam market is selling good stuff at really low price. If you are a person who likes to buy cheap stuff and not so good in bargaining. This is the place for you! Price is already low in here. Very lively area. The market is sorta covered with a roof so you won't be sweating too much under the big sun while shopping!Great place! I would definitely come back again!

Great for people who are plus sizes and want to buy clothes at street market prices. This place accommodates more variety as the street clothes will only usually fit those with a small build.
