Why Peter Hoe Beyond is special ?
Peter Hoe Beyond, profiled by the New York Times, listed in many a guidebook, is something of an institution. There's not much to be had in Malaysia that isn't better made somewhere else (batik, for example). But Peter Hoe is a pure Malaysian original, and his boutique unites the best of both contemporary and laid-back fashion and design. The boutique, called Beyond, features housewares, jewelry, crafts and a more elegant selection of creations in cotton. It occupies a whole floor of the Lee Rubber Building, and stocks an abundance of products from all over Asia that Peter himself has either designed or commissioned. You’ll find hand-dyed tablecloths, embroidered cushions, delicate silverware, and plenty of souvenir-worthy items to write home about.
What to explore at Peter Hoe Beyond?
The 8,600sqft warehouse-sized shop is divided into three colourful sections: a retail store, boutique and café. Fusing Asian and modern style, some of the best things to buy here include colourful, woven rattan baskets and place mats in bold colours and designs as well as flowery shirts, batik print pareos and scarves.
A store with more than one thing going on, there is also a small section with clothes by local fashion designer Justin Yap. You can get custom-made gowns here and there is even an array of ready-made designs. This collection is made up of romantic, traditional Malaysian costumes with lots of colourful beadwork and modern outfits with lots of bohemian flair. Casual yet stylish, they are perfect for parties. The store also sells affordably-priced linen.

A great place to visit and have a little look for pretty unique gifts or home wear. There is so much stuff in there that you don't really know where to start! Lots of lovely colourful fabrics and home wear items. I had lunch here and it was so yummy - it's worth going just for the food! The quiche was the fluffiest I've ever had and my friend had a mango chicken salad - it was huge and looked so yummy!
