Why Perfume River is special ?
The Perfume River (called Song Huong) is a river that crosses the city of Hue, in the central Vietname eprovince of Hue Province. In the autumn, flowers from orchards upriver from Hue fall into the water, giving the river a perfume-like aroma, hence the soubriquet
The PERFUME RIVER is beautiful sight from its source, and winds among mountains, forest trees, plants, etc. bringing with it fragrances of tropical flora. The river runs slowly through the verdant and shady villages of Kim Long, Nguyet Bieu, Vy Da, Dong Ba, Gia Hoi, Dinh market, Nam Pho, Bao Vinh, mingling with the odours of flowers of Hue... The river with the shimmer blue limpid colour is like a pearl in the sun. Hue boats rowing up and down with remote, meditative and deep folk melodies at deep night. It is an eternal pleasure for many generations of tourists who go boating to behold the poetic landscape, to listen to the folk melodies of Hue in tranquil nights.
What to explore at Perfume River?
You can go by boat to enjoy the poetic and peaceful beauty of Song Huong. The whole point of the boat trip to tourist was to enjoy the scenery and to be explained a bit about any particular landmarks.
The river then flows in south-north direction past the temples of Hon Chen and Ngoc Tran, then flowing north-west, meandering through the Nguyet Bieu and Luong Quan plains. Continuing on, the Song Huong flows to the north-east to Hue and passes the resting place of the Nguyen emperors. The river continues, passing Hen islet and various villages, crossing the Sinh junction (capital of ancient Chau Hoa) before emptying into the Tam Giang lagoon. From Bang Lang to the Thuan An estuary, the river is 30 km long and runs very slowly (as the river level is not much above sea level). The river darkens as it winds along the foot of Ngoc Tran mountain, where there is a deep abyss.

Tips for you
Love a little river cruise - time to sit down, relax and soak in all there is to see. Had 1 hr cruise on a dragon boat after visiting the Thien Mu Pagoda - I was so ready for a break and this was perfect. Most of seating is inside the boat out of the sun. Sat outside on the front of the boat with the driver - got the best seats on the boat in my opinion. Had a perfect view of the river, lovely breeze, sun rays and not forgetting a refreshing couple of beers to sup. Just sat back and soaked it all in - interesting to see every day life going on, upon the river and it's banks. Even saw some Ox grazing on the river bank. The staff on the boat were lovely, very friendly and we enjoyed a joke or two - despite the language barrier. Did some shopping and did a short fashion parade on the boat whilst purchasing my 3/4 length trousers and matching top, tried them on, on top of my clothing and did short fashion type walk as if on a cat walk which amused everyone including myself. Got a good bargain and got the rest of the group interested and buying goods which is great for local people working on the boat. They need to earn a living and I was happy to help and in doing so had a lovely couple of additions to the wardrobe - Fab! I enjoyed my mini cruise down perfume river in the brightly painted dragon boat but I love being on the water - sea, river - I don't mind - always find it very relaxing.
Wake-up at 5:00 in the morning to get out and exercise along the river with the locals, and to also to see the sunrise. Truly an inspiring way to start your day.
