Why Paco Park is special ?

Paco Park is a 4,114.80 m2 (44,291.3 sq ft) recreational garden and was once Manila’s municipal cemetery built by the Dominicans during the Spanish colonial period.

Paco Park is one of the oldest parks in Metro Manila. The wealthy Spaniards used to bury their dead at what was then known as Paco Cemetery. When Jose Rizal died by firing squad in Bagumbayan on December 30, 1896, his body was secretly taken to Paco Park where it was buried with a cross placed on top of the mound. His initials in reverse, RPJ, served as marker. Authorities wanted to keep it a secret as they feared his death would create a martyr-worship cult.

During the Second World War, Japanese forces used Paco Park as a central supply and ammunition depot. The high thick adobe walls around the park were ideal for defensive positions of the Japanese. The park was converted into a national park in 1966 during the term of President Diosdado Macapagal. Paco Park’s grandeur was slowly restored after the war and since then has remained as a public park and promenade for many teenage sweethearts who could spend quiet moments along the park’s benches and private alcoves.

What to explore at Paco Park?

Paco Park is circular in shape, with an inner circular fort that stood as the original cemetery. Its walls were made hollow to serve as niches, and as the population continued to grow, a second outer wall was built with thick adobe walls. The top of the walls were then made into pathways for promenades. A small, domed Roman Catholic chapel was also built inside the walls of the park and was dedicated to St. Pancratius.

Inside the Paco Cemetery is a chapel dedicated to St. Pancratius,a Roman citizen who converted to Christianity, and was beheaded for his faith at the age of just 14 around the year 304. His name is Greek and literally means "the one that holds everything".

A wedding is the start of a new life as a couple and the best way to begin it is to have a wedding you will never forget. This park has bear witness so countless weddings and i was fortunate to attend one. This is the perfect setting for an unforgettable wedding. The park is not so big much like the other wedding reception areas so you have an intimate setting. The classic spansh architecture of the church gives it more appeal too. I love that they have preserved the beauty of this place. Various concerts and events are also held here. Very accessible by cab or even just by taking a jeepney. The place is also clean. One thing to look out is the environment as paco is notorious for criminalelements so be wary once outside as several people have been victims of such.

Paco Park is a place where weddings are held. A realtive was married and we witnissed the practice till the wedding ceremony. It was like a movie as the place was so serene and classy. The motiff was kind of a movie from the past as the dress were not modern but real classic. The park itself is a place that is nice but when you go out you have to watch out for pickpockets as one of our visitors lost his cellphone courtesy of those young boys prawling asking for some money.

Peaceful and à cozy park. Historical and à very nice showcase of the architecural structure in the olden times. I liked it here, if in Manila, à better place to take à break from the maddening crowd. Very good restaurant is also close to this place. No neef to worry, taxi can be found in few minutes. Though there is à fee of 10 pesos, this is only minimal and understandably appropriate. You can try to get the best rest in between stroll while in the city. One can attend mass here on Sundays and other scheduled events. This is where the first burial site of D'r. José Rizal and the GomBurZa.
