Why Osaka Science Museum is special ?
The Osaka Science Museum ( Ōsaka Shiritsu Kagakukan) on Nakanoshima Island has four floors of interactive exhibits and displays. The museum was designed with children in mind and takes visitors through displays on the universe, chemistry, electricity and energy. A science show is held three times a day (in Japanese only). In addition to the exhibits, the Science Museum has a planetarium with four daily shows and an Imax Dome Theater, called "Omnimax", with a rotating selection of Imax films at additional cost.
How to get to Osaka Science Museum?
The Osaka Science Museum is located on Nakanoshima Island directly adjacent to the National Museum of Art Osaka. Take the Yotsubashi Subway Line to Higobashi Station, from where the museum can be reached in a 5-10 minute walk. Nakanoshima Station on the Keihan Nakanoshima Line is even closer.

Conveniently (and wisely) located next to the National Museum of Art, the Osaka Science Museum is a great place to bring the kids. Especially if they speak Japanese. Lots of interactive displays that keep them busy. I don't speak Japanese, nor do I have children, but I still gave this place 4-stars since I observed everyone else having a great time playing and it's smart to have the museum located next to an art museum. Best of both worlds.
This was a great place to visit. The top floor had lots of fun interactive science exhibits. The next floor had a lot of great info about materials and a science show (very cool). The last floor of the museum had a great space for kids to play and again lots of interactive stuff for kids (and there were lots of adults using them too). There is also a planetarium with shows that looked fun, but I didn't get to see any of them on this visit. Maybe next time. The admission was very cheap for the quality of museum. I will definitely go back! The only bad thing was that there were almost no English explanations available.
I really liked this--fascinating but don't expect any engrish at all. I'm just sayin'... 400 yen is reasonable considering I was there for nearly 3 hrs
My expectations were high. You know, I'm in Japan... The Kingdom of the new technologies...This museum is old. I've seen Science museum in Paris, NYC and Montreal and they were more up to date. They got some pretty cool stuff but if you feal to visit a place with that 80's feeling. Go. If not, do something else. Osaka has better to offer.
