Why Old Manila Walks -Day Tours is special ?
Cultural tripper and selfprofessed “streetwalker” Ivan Man Dy believes that the best way to see Manila is on foot. Well-known for being the Manila guide for culinary traveler Anthony Bourdain’s Philippine episode of No Reservations and for his walking tours Old Manila Walks (www. oldmanilawalks.com), Dy takes “extra steps” to transform his philosophy of “walking the talk” into an urban reality.

I took part in the BIG Binondo Food Wok tour today and it was a fantastic introduction to a part of Manila that would otherwise be slightly impenetrable as a tourist. It was great to learn about the history of the area, Ivan, the tour guide, was extremely informative and has a charming sense of humour, and best of all, we were extremely well-fed. The tour was a great opportunity for people to sample typical local Chinese dishes and snacks that they might otherwise never think to order or try. A really great tour, highly recommended!
I took the "wok-ing" tour this past Saturday morning with two friends and we all were impressed with the tour. This was my first time in Manila and my two friends have been living there for about 6 months. This tour took all of us through parts of Manila not previously visited and kept us well fed along the way. If we liked any of the food we were trying, we could get more. The food was fairly diverse, giving the participants a good overview / sampling of some regional Chinese food (Cantonese / Xinjiang / Fujian). The most interesting part was hearing the history of the Chinese in the Philippines. I personally enjoy walking and exploring as a way to get to know a new city. Having a guide and being fed along the way, just made it better.
My family and I came together in Manila from all over the globe to celebrate my aunt's 60th birthday. To introduce my cousin and a Chinese-Canadian friend to Philippine history and refresh myself on it, we decided to do a walking tour with Old Manila Walks. We did the Halo-Halo Espesyal Walking tour. Booking over email was fantastic; email exchanges were swift. During the tour, Ivan initially explain everything in English but when my aunt couldn't follow as fast, he immediately switched to Tagalog and I mean, old deep Tagalog that was very intimidating for me and my cousin. Ivan further accomodated my aunt by slowing down the pace and stopping from time to time so we can have some water. We had so much fun on this walk that by the end of it; it felt like Ivan became part of our family. Asked if she enjoyed herself, my aunt, although tired from the walk, was all smiles at the end of the day. Thank you for making our Manila trip so worth it. Will definitely book with you again!
