Why Okonomimura is special ?
Hiroshima Okonomiyaki is a crepe-like dish containing meat, seafood, cabbage, and so on. It's so loved by Hiroshima people that there are more than 2000 Okonomiyaki restaurants in the prefecture.
If you would like to try the Okonomiyaki, you should try "Okonomimura" food theme park where a lot of Okonomiyaki restaurants are gathered. The origin of this theme park was a group of street stands which used to open at the central square of the city around 1950, soon after World War 2. Now it has become a sightseeing spot of Hiroshima where local people and even foreign tourists flock together.
How to get to Okonomimura?
The modern Astram (アストラムライン) links the city center with the northern suburbs, although there aren't many tourist sights out that way. Trips range from ¥180-470 by distance, with departures every few minutes between 6AM-midnight. The underground station at the end of Hon-dōri, near the Peace Park, is the terminus in the city center.

Tips for you
I enjoyed our visit here. It's hard to know which place to choose. We went straight to the fourt floor and wandered around the stall things. Most were full of western tourists which didn't look very appealing to be honest. We sat at one full of locals with just two spare seats and messages all over the walls and an older lady cooking (I think she is the owner and the place is named after her, I think it is Ano's place or something like that). There was a younger guy also cooking and he spoke a bit of English and gave us an English menu. I wasn't sure what the etiquette was but we just basically sat down and waited for a menu to be give to us and ordered a couple of beers. Atmosphere was great as the locals were all enjoying themselves and the food. The okonomi-yaki was awesome - some of the best that we had! Would recommend, even though it is a bit pricier and touristy than some other places in town.
You can't seem to go wrong anywhere here, but we were served the most amazing okonomiyaki by the two ladies in (if I recall correctly) the third shop going in. Def best style okonomiyaki I've had.
