Why Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is special ?

Neidong Forest Park was established in 1984. It is located in Wulai, Taipei, and is also known as Wawagu. It has the best conserved ecology in northern Taipei. The magnificent mountainous scenery and canyons are connected with Wulai. There are many waterfalls in the park and the most famous is Xinxian Waterfall, which has 3 levels. Along the tour track, visitors can enjoy the dense forests, the birds and the butterflies. Flora and fauna in the park are conserved very well. In addition, the park has different views in different times of the year and is worthy to visit.

Nanshi River runs across the Neidong Forest Park and in the south there is Neidong River. The rivers form many waterfalls in the park. The most famous is the 3-level Xinxian Waterfall, which presents a grand spectacle. The rail-cart, which was used for transporting timber, is now a tourist attraction. The distance between Lansheng Bridge to Wulai Waterfall is 1.6 km and it takes about 3-5 minutes on a rail-cart to finish the trip.

What to explore at Neidong National Forest Recreation Area?

Wulai area represents a typical ecological environment in a low-elevation valley region. Just a few minutes drive from Wulai Old Street, with abundant phytoncides (wood essential oils) in the evergreen broad-leaf forest, Neidong National Forest Recreation Area (內洞國家森林遊樂區) is an ideal spot for a "forest bath".

Neidong is such a diverse eco-environment that you never know what you'll see on the way. Butterflies and beetles can be easily found in the park. Like a natural botanic garden, a variety of plants and colorful lichen seems to come out everywhere. If you are lucky enough, you will have a chance to see some wild monkeys jumping up and down on the trees. Besides, it's pretty certain that no matter where you are, the sound of insects and birds will always accompany with you.

Neidong Waterfall (內洞瀑布), also known as Xinxian (信賢) or Wa-wa Valley Waterfall (娃娃谷瀑布), is definitely the highlight when you visit here.
