Why National Institute of Fine Arts is special ?

The National Institute of Fine Arts (NIFA) in Vientiane, Laos is a school that has produced famous Lao national artists. This fifty year old institution has recently become part of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. The ministry has been supporting the Institute in order to preserve and promote Lao artists and their art internationally. Most of the portraits, sculptures, and installations at NIFA’s exhibition hall are made by NIFA’s students as well as Lao national artists. If you’d like to participate in any of the plastic arts, NIFA offers classes upon request at 50,000 kip/hour ($8 USD). If you are interested and eager to learn Lao Arts, this is the best place to learn and experience the current Art scene in Laos. Plenty of portraits and installations await your discovery.

What to explore at National Institute of Fine Arts?

The National Institute of Fine Art (NIFA) exhibition hall is the place to go to discover the future of Laotian art, and perhaps pick up a painting at a bargain price. Exhibiting in a beautiful old building on the corner of Khoun Boulom Road, the NIFA presents paintings, sculptures and installations made by its students and staff. For the past fifty years, the NIFA has seen many of the country’s most famous artists pass through its doors, either as students or as teachers, or both, and continues to nurture the country’s fledgling art practice. It has recently become part of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, which means the promotion of Laotian artists will be better supported, both at home and abroad.

Not an easy place to find, but it was well worth the journey. Located close to the corner of Khoun Boulom Road and Chao Anou Road , this gallery exhibits the work of students and teachers at the Fine Arts Institute, a school for aspiring Laotian artisans. The school itself is outside town close to the Indian and Australian embassy, but they have this gallery to display some of their works. The gallery is much simpler than the galleries on the high street, but the advantages are that the artists are the same, the money goes directly to them and most importantly the prices are a quarter the price. We went a high street gallery and paid particular attention to a painting by one of the teachers at the institute. We actually met him at this gallery and he showed us more of his work.If you are looking for a souvenir that is slightly more unique than the tee-shirt, come and take a look here.

In July I visited Vientiane and as I was walking along the road I came across the exhibition hall for the National Institute of Fine Arts.Housed in a lovely building are art pieces such as woodcuts, paintings, sculpture. I enjoyed being able to look at some of the artistic talent of Laos and was also able to afford to buy some pieces that I particularly liked.I am back in Vientiane in December and will once again go to the Exhibition Hall to view their works. If you like art, this is a fine way to spend some time, and perhaps come home with a beautiful representation of art in Laos.

не знаю, почему это называется институтом - своеобразная галерея искусств: чистенько, скромненько и вполне прилично
