Why Nadao is special ?

Nadao is located near the new bridge in downtown Pakse in the corner of what seems to be an unnamed hotel. As you walk up the steps you’ll be welcomed by very friendly staff and shown to your table. The restaurant is decked out in the dark, old-school ‘indochina’ style preferred by many French restaurants in Laos; handicrafts and artifacts adorning wooden walls, heavy wooden tables and chairs and pottery items on display in cabinets. Whilst this might be going out of fashion in Vientiane, it still makes an impression in Pakse. And although dark, the surroundings do create a nice ambiance for nighttime meals.

The place attracts not only high-end tourists but also a lot of business customers and to remind you that he has your best interests at heart, owner and cuisiner Mr. Sayavouth will make regular stops at your table to check on you.

Must try dishes:

Nadao’s ostrich steak

Sauteed vegetables

Dark chocolate melloux

Passion-fruit sorbet

Asian pumpkins

Mediocre french cooking. There are so Many good places to choose from in Pakse. This one isn't worth the visit.

We went to the restaurant because it was close to our HOTEL AND there is not much selection in the area. Dinner for two. Location: ======= Quite a bit outside the centre, but easy to find as it is at the ramp of the Lao-Nippon Bridge. Close to Champasak Grand Hotel. Atmosphere: ========== They have two large salt water aquariums (it felt like a snorkeling trip to the Maldives). Wooden floors, bamboo and other wooden walls. Rattan and wood chairs. English music in background. Low lights. Silver cutlery and cotton napkins & tablecloth. Large a/c for nice cool (not too cold) air in a (too hot for me) climate. Really nice atmosphere. Food: ===== Small menu, French cuisine, hardly any local dishes. I had duck breast with fruit and a black pepper sauce. The fruit turned out to be mango. Really nice!. (Originally wanted ribeye which was not available, so in hindsight that was a good thing, the duck was sooo good). And there was a small potatoe gratin with it. Bread and butter were delicious. Small amuse bouche to start the meal. My wife ordered the salmon filled with ginger and carrots, but it was not filled with anything and the sauce was neither carroty nor gingery. At the end it turned out (with the French on the bill) that the English on the menu was not quite right: It was au ginger & carrot. In any case it was very tasty indeed. All food was nicely presented. Drinks: ====== Beer was poured at a side table and served in the glass. The selection was Lao gold and Heineken. The wine seemed to be stored properly in a separate room, but we did not try any. Service: ======= The staff had little English. We couldn't find out what would accompany duck or salmon. The service was prompt and attentive. Our side orders of steamed rice and French fries never made it, but we didn't complain as we were happy with what we had. The owner(?) inquired afterwards how the food was and did seem genuinely interested. Price & payment: ============= Price for our two mains with beer $25.60 / 205000kip / 20.50€. Credit card woul add 3%.
