This journey takes you to explore the least visited yet most captivating destinations along the Hoang Lien Son mountain range in northwest Vietnam. The quirky villages of Thai, H'mong, Dzo and Tay hill tribe people, endless tea plantations in Moc Chau and Southeast Asia's most stunning terraced rice fields in the heavenly My Cang Chai, all will take for an unforgettable adventure. Amidst this magnificent landscape, you will meet ethnic minority people in their colourful costumes and be dazzled by their welcoming smiles.

What to explore at Mu Cang Chai Colorful Cultures - 5 Days 4 Nights?

Day 1. Hanoi – Thac Ba (L, D)   

Transfer from Hanoi to Thac Ba. Thac Ba is the biggest man-made lake in Vietnam and captivates travelers with its incredible authentic beauty and more than 300 islands under lush vegetation. We participate on a boat trip and visit some Dzao and Tay villages. Overnight in Dzao village, on house on stilt.

170km – 4h driving and 2h on boat.

Day 2. Thac Ba – Muong Lo (B, L, D)   

Thac Ba lake has an area of 23,400 ha comprising 1,331 islands and hills with diverse eco-system. Morning boat trip to discover this lake, a chance to jump into the clear water to wash all your tiredness.

Say good bye to our host, we then drive to Muong Lo – the town of Nghia Lo, the second largest rice field in the Northwest Vietnam and also the homeland of Thai ethnic people. Thai people first came here grew rice and built their traditional wooden house of iron and bamboo around 700 years ago. Take a short walk of 2 hours around the village to discover Thai ethnic culture and daily life. Stay overnight at the homestay in Muong Lo.

150km – 3,5h driving and 2h easy walking.

Day 3. Muong Lo – Tu Le (B, L, D)   

Depart by bus, the road follows the mountains of Hoang Lien Son and winds through the rice terrace. Stop for starting you hike, enjoy the beautiful scenery and stop shooting on the way before reach the village of the Thai and H'mong ethnic minorities. People here are dressed in traditional costumes and welcome us with open arms. The local here still retain their traditional life stlye and customs and habits so that is a good chance for someone who aim to study about the culture. Night at homestay

Day 4. Tu Le – Mu Cang Chai (B, L, D)   

Continue drive along the mountainous road with spectacular scenery along the way. Stop at Nga Ba Kim for a short break after hours on bus. Start trekking until we reach the village of Thai and H’mong ethnic minorities. Stunning landscapes of terraced rice fields, mountains, clouds and wooden stilt houses, all like in a heaven of peace and simple happiness. Be warmly welcome by locals in their traditional costumes, see the H’mong women sitting by their loom and say hello to children past, you will truly get connected to the land and the people here. Night and dinner in Mu Cang Chai homestay.

Note: 1 hour drive & 5-6hour light trek

Day 5. Mu Cang Chai - Sapa (B, L)   

After 2 hours driving, the road begins to climb up Tram Ton Pass, the highest pass of Vietnam (2047m). Stop for photos hunting and enjoying the fresh atmosphere. From here, you can also see the Fanxipan Mountain - “the roof of Indochina” (3143m) soaked in clouds. Arrive in Sapa at noon, visit colorful ethnic market and Sapa old town with some vestige of French colonial era. After lunch, we take a light trek, a bit long but easy out of the town to visit Ta Van village where the H’mong, Dao and Dzay ehtnic people live peacefully together. Back to Sapa town and say good bye our guide. Ends of services.
