Why Mount Merapi Museum is special ?
Can you imagine how people will learn about nature phenomenon? Are they using scientific research? Are they believed in myth of the nature? Probably, there's a place where we can get answer of the questions, it's on Merapi Museum, located east of Kaliurang, north of Jogjakarta city.
Walking from the south, you will se unique facade of the museum. It has big red gate, the yard is very huge, and the stair is looks exotic-made from andesit material. The exterior building is covered by white aluminium. If you lucky, you can see the Mount Merapi snoop from behind, just like a giant blue creature thing preparing to jump at the yard. It's so beautiful and unique. When I was there, some people were made a pose in front of the gate.

First random visit, no idea where to go when I reached Kaliurang area. The entrance looks like a small garden, quiet and beautiful :) but the stunning view that really caught my eyes was of ciyrse the merapi mountain, located right behind the buliding. I have never seen a real mountain in such a 'almost' close up view, it's huge and I was amazed. Other than that, unless you wanna know more about merapi or volcanic mountains, I don't think you will like it here. But I do encourage those who travel with children to visit this place, very educative and cheap, Rp. 3k. They also play a movie of 20mins duration about the eruption of Merapi in 2006 (separate ticket, Rp. 5k)
Drop by from a trip form semarang to jogja, well this museum is an it depends chategory. If you like nature and hiking you might find usefull stuff about the volcano here, even the selection of route if you want to go hike. But if you dont like hiking or mountain i do recommend taking lots of picture in the outside. The view is nice and u can see the mounain so clearly. Recommended to visit on mid day so you will not experincing any fog while taking picture of the mountain.
I did not know what to expect as this was a last minute "tour" while my husband played golf. From the outside it looks like an impressive building.I arrived with my driver who came in with me, it will cost 3,000 IDR to get in, and if you want to watch the video (which is the best part) that is another 5,000 IDR they could not change 50,000 so luckily my driver paid for me.When I walked in there were pieces of the roof lining missing and exposed steel work, it was obvious that they had been some major water leaks and when it started to pour rain outside I could see that there were still water leaks.Everything that is in the video is then repeated on the lower ground levels, some of the photos of the volcano eruptions were very good, but overall do not make a special trip to see it.
