Why Mount Mat Cincang is special ?

Mount Mat Cincang is the second highest peak on Langkawi and the oldest mountain in the whole of Southeast Asia. This majestic mountain range is covered in dense rainforest and features some incredibly old and impressive rock formations. Mount Mat Cincang is one of three UNESCO World Heritage Geoparks on Langkawi and is understandably one of the top tourist attractions on the island.

The rainforest within Mount Mat Cincang is home to some ancient, gigantic trees, as well as a flurry of forest animals, including the macaque monkey and an array of birdlife, including the eagle – the symbol Langkawi itself.

What to explore at Mount Mat Cincang?

Gunung Mat Cincang is probably Langkawi’s best-known mountain, aside from its neighbour Gunung Raya. At 850m high, it is the second highest mountain in Langkawi and offers some pretty spectacular views of the island. It is home to the famous cable car that carries passengers 709m above sea level to the apex.

Besides enjoying the spectacular views of the forested and craggy sides of Mount Cincang, on a clear day you can see all the way to the mainland and southwest Thailand. Besides that, at the top of Gunung Mat Cincang you can also have a buffet dinner at the restaurant.

How to get to Mount Mat Cincang?

The most popular and scenic way to see Mount Mat Cincang is to take the cable car ride from Oriental Village, located at the foot of the mountain in the Pantai Kok area.

Whenever I travel to Langkawi, I usually hire a car as it is cheap to get one, of course travel during non peak date, hence car rental company can be offer rate like RM 80 to RM 150 per car day depend on car type. One gets Perodua Viva, Mits, Cefiro, Honda Accord. Then you can move around freely in vast and beautiful island of Langkawi. Drive to Gunung Mat Cincang which is located near Berjaya Langkawi Beach Resort. Welcome to Oriental Village with many shops selling souvenirs, handicraft, batik clothing, localized restaurant and of course the huge ticket counter selling ticket for Gunung Mat Cincang Cable Car. One will never miss the beautiful background scenery, cable car climbing up the tall misty Gunung Mat Cincang Mountain and disappeared from view. I like the rides, quiet, windy, sound made by the wind seeping into the cabin, higher it goes, cooler the wind, beautiful scenery, green, blue color sea, sometime misty. At one juncture, cable car climb steep can say near 80degrees ! One is welcome to 1st station which you can stop nd visit enjoy the cool air and scenery and also there is 2nd station before coming back. Hanging Bridge is at 2nd Station, but during my visit it was closed for renovation.
