Why Mockingbird Coffee is special ?
Mockingbird coffee, located on the 4th floor of an ancient French apartment at Ho Chi Minh City, surrounded by high-rise, modern glamor buildings, is a small part of a space old Saigon. Cool, hip, and hidden Mocking Bird is what all independent cafes should be. Up four flights of dark, dank concrete stairs in a run-down apartment block that looks like it’s slated for demolition in downtown Saigon’s financial district, Mocking Bird is an unexpected ‘eagle’s nest’ with views over the ‘soviet-gothic’ architecture of the State Bank of Vietnam, which itself looks as though it’s been abandoned; sculpted busts of Lenin and Uncle Ho are just about visible through gaps between heavy, dusty, drawn curtains.

Tips for you
I am surprised not a lot of people know about this place. I have been there because I was doing a tour with a local guide and as a coffee lover he thought that was definitely a place to check out. From the outside there is no clue that inside the building there are coffee shops but once you go through this dark and sketchy alley there is a small sign that points at the stairs. At the fourth floor of the building you can get a very nice view of part of the city while sipping typical Vietnamese coffee and reading a book. Definitely worth a visit.
The feeling that you've stepped back in time. It's a really chilled out place that doesn't take itself too seriously. Next time I would like to see it in the evening.
