Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum opened in 1994 to expose visitors to inspiring science and technology in its six zones: Aerospace, Ocean, Transportation, Daily Life Discovery, Environment, Energy and Technology Quest. Feel the wonders of leading scientific technology. There are rockets, ships, airplanes, environmental, and energy related technologies on display. You can hop on board a real-size cockpit of the first domestic production regional jet plan “MRJ” and enjoy the “MRJ flight challenge” flight simulator. In the “discoveries of day to day life” zone, you can discover the amazing technologies that surround you in day to day living! Let’s take a look at what the future lifestyle holds for us. Space food, experiment kits, models, and souvenirs are for sale in the museum shop.

What to explore at Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum?

Its exhibits include: an actual rocket engine used for firing test, a large-scale model of Shinkai 6500 (manned submergence research vessel), Eco-town friendly to the earth and people, the history of ships, airplanes and railway that have supported Japan’s development, and many more. You could forget the passage of time at their sheer diversity

Trial Square is a space to learn an aspect of advanced technologies. Visitors can experience designing a jet aircraft, helicopter, ferry or deep submergence vehicle, fabricating a steam locomotive or a concept car, and operating a helicopter. The square is so popular that you might have to wait for your turn.

The museum holds a variety of events loved by children such as movie screenings and stamp rallies during spring, summer and winter vacations.

8 minutes on a moving walkway from Sakuragicho Station on the JR Keihin Tohoku Line (40 minutes from Tokyo Station); or 3-minute walk from Minatomirai Station on the Minatomirai Line. (Car) In front of Minatomirai Entrance on the Metropolitan Expressway (Parking with charge).

A good place to visit with young children or the young at heart. It has nice interactive displays of city planning, nuclear power generation and space travel. Being a gas turbine engineer I particularly liked the display of the rocket booster engines and space travel details. Well worth the cost of admission.
