Why Mitchan Sohonten Hatchobori is special ?
When you order Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki you can choose your toppings and whether you want soba (thin noodles) or udon (thick noodles). The most basic version is called "soba niku-tama" - that's cabbage topped with pork, egg and noodles. But you can also get seafood, or even Hiroshima's famous oysters on top (for the latter, order kaki-iri). If you're not sure what to go with (and you're really hungry!) give Mitchan's "tokusei (deluxe) special" a try. It includes tempura-fried squid, grilled squid and shrimp and mochi (pounded rice).

Tips for you
My wife's parents (who live in Nagano prefecture in central Honshu) dined at this okonomiyaki-ya when they visited Hiroshima 10 years ago...and recommended it to us. We weren't disappointed. The okonomiyaki we had was first rate. The restaurant opened in 1950 and the fact it is still around indicates our food experience was no fluke.
