Why Mekong Estate is special ?

Mekong Estate is founded in 2005, the first residence services in Luang Prabang. The original concept is to offer visitors the privilege of staying in charming private houses or apartments in this city listed on the UNESCO World Heritage since 1995. Nothing to compare with hotel or guesthouse, the guests just enjoyed the refined comfort, the warmly Indochina atmosphere, the space of accommodation, 70sqm up to 340 sqm, the view on the Mekong River, the lao colonial architectural style, the 25m swimming-pool at the Residence Saylom Riverside, four different location in town and more.

Mekong Estate lives up to its name with five stately Lao-colonial style villas, all with a stunning vista of the majestic Mekong River and mountains. Each of the property’s 12 well-appointed suites has a river view and private terrace, and is designed to be your home away from home.

What to explore at Mekong Estate?

The interior design reflects the beauty of past colonial times; many local, earth tone coloured materials add to the warm and cozy atmosphere.

The Garden Loft, a charming loft type detached house, ideal for one or two guests, opens up into the garden and provides lots of space to read and relax outside.

Bamboo-Suite I and II. This two-story house is located right next to the Garden Loft. It is surrounded by large, yellow Bamboo and offers extra privacy. The two suites are perfect for a couple.

Jade-Suite. This suite is slightly larger than the Bamboo-Suites and offers an amazing river view as it is located slightly up the hill.

Maison Rouge is an elegant Lao colonial style villa overlooking the river and the large lap pool. Maison Rouge is suitable for 6 guests. It has its own fully equipped kitchen.

Sunset House. This residence can be rented exclusively (4 bedrooms for up to eight guests) or partical. It sits right over the pool and sundeck and also offers an amazing view, especially in the early evening hours.

There are plenty of accommodation choices in Luang Prabang, with a variety of price points. Most choices are in or near the lovely heritage listed old town, and it would suit many to be close to the action. We chose Mekong Estate because a garden setting close to the river appealed to us, especially with a seven night stay. We couldn't have chosen better! Yes, it's a couple of km out of the centre (about A$5 on a tuk tuk) but it's not at all inconvenient. They offer a car service, but we mostly chose to take advantage of the free bikes to ride into town and around the sights. We felt quite safe, even at night. (Any problems, they provide a local phone and contact numbers). The real winner for this place is its location. On arrival, it seems most unlikely - a rough dirt track off the main road and into a cluster of local houses and shops. But bordering the Mekong is this collection of houses in a gorgeous garden setting. We chose the Garden Loft and it was perfect. A building all to ourselves, nestled in the garden with a view of the passing traffic on the Mekong (endlessly fascinating). Plenty of room, plenty of amenities, good wifi, nice breakfast...and a really nice pool to splash into or sit beside. And the service! Nothing is too much trouble and every assistance offered, from tour bookings to advice. Best of all, it gave us a haven to come back to after trekking around in the heat. We've loved it. You will, too!
