Located on Barra square next to the A-Ma temple where the Portuguese are believed to have first set foot in Macau, the museum is dedicated to the marine history and technology with exhibits covering the different types of boats, ships, rudders, sails, marine traditions and equipment. The three story museum is shaped like a sailing ship and has a full size dragon boat at the entrance. The museum has scale models of different types of ships and fishing boats from all around the world as well as the different fishing techniques. A section of the museum also displays Macau fishermen in their traditional costumes. Other sections of the museum are dedicated to Portuguese exploration and trace, parts of ships like rudders, sails and anchors, goods traded from Macau like silk and porcelain, shipping and navigation equipment like bouys, sextants and a ship's wheel and the evolution of shipping technology through the ages. Near the exit are several aquariums containing living marine creatures. The museum is easily accessible using public transport and is definitely worth a visit. Best to combine it with a visit with the nearby A-Ma temple.
