Tips for you
Lovely pool, great location, staff our friendly and helpful. Recommended!
Beautiful former palace, colonial building, full of charm. Very well maintained and just the best staff!! So friendly and helpful, couldn't do enough for you to ensure you enjoyed your stay. Very hands on manager Yvonne who is always around at breakfast chatting to guests ensuring they are enjoying their stay. We stayed for three nights. Check in was smooth, quick and very friendly, the refreshing cold towel and drink were very welcomed. We were shown to our room on the first floor looking out onto the gardens at the front of the hotel. No noise from the road once inside your room. Lovely spacious balcony with comfy chairs, spent many hours chilling with a beer or two after a hard day of touring. The room was a little on the small side compared to the hotels we stayed in but was beautifully decorated and was very cosy and comfortable and you had all the amenities that you would require. The bathroom was also on the small side and all the fixtures and fittings were very low, including the toilet/sink/ledge - very strange (built for Laos height people). Shower was fine. Think the bathroom could do with updating and fitting the fixtures higher. Very quiet no noise from other guests or from the road - peaceful. The breakfast choices were ample and varied both hot/cold options. On one of the mornings they had a reduced buffet breakfast but you could order your hot choices with restaurant staff. Do try the coconut pancakes, which are freshly made at the egg cooking station they are delicious. We managed to lock ourselves out of the room one afternoon whilst sitting out on the balcony - fortunately another guest heard me whistling and guessed something was wrong. I asked the lady if she would get a member of staff to let us back into our room. Very swiftly we were rescued and were able to continue getting ready to go out for dinner. I'm sure we're not first guests to do this or the last despite being warned the door will lock if closed and you need the key to open from the balcony but for a couple of days this wasn't the case and door opened/shut from the balcony no problem without the key. Then it just decided to not open on this occasion - oh well, it was quite funny at the time. We asked the reception staff to make a restaurant booking for us - they later confirmed that our booking had been made. They really are very helpful staff and are a real asset to this hotel. I didn't get to try the pool as the weather wasn't great for three days that we were in Luang Prabang. Only swam in the Kuangsi Waterfalls which was beautiful and very refreshing. Location of this hotel is spot on - just down road from an array of restaurants and bars, night market, Phousy hill, museums and the mighty Mekong river. Found a local laundry service - $2 1kg/washed/ironed - turn left out of hotel, take first left and then first right and it's just there. Next day collection as we didn't drop it off until late. Lovely coffee shop/bakery/hotel called Ninety Six - again turn left out of hotel, take first left - walk down, cross crossroad and it's there on your left. Enjoyed a beer/soft drink/lunch - sandwiches, fries, and deep fried prawns - all very tasty. Lovely little quiet spot for a bit of lunch or breakfast whilst dropping off your laundry. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and was sad to leave. If I ever return I'd very happily stay here again.
