Tips for you
This temple is really, really big. The grounds around it also is huge. There is also a nice bird refuge right next to it and one can see many white herons resting on all of the trees in the refuge (when the herons are not fishing for food). Also at the refuge, there are a few cages with rather large snakes in them Maybe Boa Constrictors). The temple is in a newly built up area of Medan suburbia that also has a park with a rock way that has bumps on the path so people can walk bare foot to massage their feet. We tried it and it does hurt so one must take it slow when walking. We went to this area to eat in one of the many large, open air seafood restaurants that also make up part of the newly built up suburb (some buildings are not even finished yet). One can find huge bins with fish on ice from which one can choose from. This was a great place to visit and the suburb is far removed from the pollution and noise of Medan proper. The temple is a very nice place to relax in front of a large Buddha image and who could not feel some serenity there? I would live in this area if I were to retire in Medan.
Vihara is so grand and large in the city of Medan, which is said one of the largest temple in Indonesia, namely Maha Vihara Maitreya.
