Why Luang Prabang Bowling Alley is special ?
The Luang Prabang Bowling Alley is famed for being a late-night drinking hole in addition to being the town’s only ten pin bowling venue. Located just outside of town, about 5 kilometers west of the town’s center, near the Luang Prabang Hospital, bowling alley presents virtually the only activity you can do in Luang Prabang after 11:00pm when the bars close. Loud Asian pop music, local whisky and Beer Lao are as popular as the bowling which costs 20,000 kip per person per game. Bowling, drinking and socialising continues until doors close at 02:00 with the crowd consisting mainly of backpackers.
What to explore at Luang Prabang Bowling Alley?
Whisper to the tuk tuk drivers after curfew drinking hours where the best place is to carry on the drinking sesh and they’ll no doubt suggest the nearby bowling alley. It seems as though the Bowling Hall has been solely created for foreigners not wanting to go home as the alley packs with backpackers from midnight onwards. A bit of a strange thing to do in Laos, but a popular and good place to meet other travellers – if you’re not already too drunk by the time you make it here. The bowling alley is one of the few places in Luang Prabang where you can grab a drink after the strict 23:30 curfew and is best reached by taking a tuk tuk.

Tips for you
I'm sure bowling isn't the first thing that comes to peoples minds when they visit Luang Prabang, but give it a go for sure! Most of the backpackers/tourist that end up here usually have started the night at a bar called Utopia (which you will find down some narrow alleys) but once the bar is closed then what do you do? You fill a tuck tuck with as many people as possible so the fare is cheaper, buy some cheap whisky and have some fun while bowling and making new friends!
When the discotheque shuts down, head here for a few games and convince your tuk tuk driver to join you. If you bowl a high score, they give you a surprise.
