Why LaZat Malaysian Cooking Class is special ?

Malaysian cuisine is a unique fusion of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Baba-Nonya flavors, drawing upon our country’s rich history as an historical crossroads for explorers and traders from around the globe. At LaZat, their goal is to bring Malaysian cooking to the world by sharing with you their family recipes, which we have savored and perfected over generations.
The hands-on classes are held Monday to Saturday and presented in English by entertaining Malaysian instructors. Each day of the week we teach a different menu, and provide detailed explanations of ingredients and cooking methods. Students individually prepare their 3-course lunch at their own cooking station, usually consisting of an appetizer, main course, side dish, and dessert.
Malaysians are known for their warm hospitality, readily welcoming visitors into their homes and offering home-cooked food. LaZat Cooking strives to recreate this traditional sense of hospitality through hands-on cooking courses in a rustic setting. Nestled in the jungle just outside of Kuala Lumpur city centre  and overlooking the lush Penchala Hills, with roosters crowing and monkeys scampering through the distant canopy, our cooking school has the feel of a kampung / village.

What to explore at LaZat Malaysian Cooking Class?

Malaysian food is a delectable fusion of various diverse cultures predominantly Malay, Chinese and Indian. At LaZat, you will be introduced to some of the traditional favourites like Rendang, Nasi Lemak, Char Koay Teow, Dhall  and lots of others too.

Menus for each class will rotate with a selection of dishes for starters accompaniments, main course and dessert. There are difference menus offered during the week and LaZat reserves the right to change the menu from time to time to suit demand. Special requests can be arranged subject to prior notice being made.

Myself and my 15 yr old daughter did the chinese/malay Friday cooking class. We had a fabulous time. The ladies were delightful. There was a market tour before hand which was a short walk away from the Cooking School. We were shown local meat, seafood, spices, fruits and vegetables. The market tour was about 40 mins and is only done on the Friday class. You can skip this part if you want. The food we prepared and cooked was lovely and I can't wait to cook it back home. We were shown 3 courses and then whilst we were preparing our courses and eating them the ladies had dessert on the boil - which took hours to cook.. We had a bowl of the dessert at the end and it was delicious...We were given small recipie books to take notes in and take home.It was a lovely way to spend a half a day. I can't wait until my next KL visit to book a different classThere was transport to and from the class for a reasonable fee, considering we had to be at the class by 8.30 for the market tour the transport was easy and convenient. Communication beforehand was also excellent with Sue phoning to confirm class, arrange transport, then confirm times.

Spent about four hours whipping up local dishes at this well-run cooking school. Our teacher was terrific, the food delicious and the instruction book very helpful. Purchased all the necessary items needed to make the dishes at home upon our return. Had a great time with the teacher and staff, as well as the other couple. Recommend this highly if you enjoy attending local cooking class during your visits to foreign countries.
