Why Laman Padi Langkawi is special ?

Laman Padi Langkawi is Langkawi's latest attraction and one that should not be missed for agro-tourism lovers. Located at Pantai Cenang, in the vicinity of the island's popular beach resorts and just 10 minutes from the airport, Laman Padi Langkawi showcases the history, heritage and development of the nation's rice growing industry.

Among the attractions here is a rice museum displaying artifacts, charts and photographs showing the significance of padi cultivation to the country. Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a bird's eye view of the fields from a roof-top garden. For the uninitiated, try your hand at -padi planting using both traditional as well as modern methods of cultivation. There is also a restaurant offering popular traditional Malay recipies and local delicacies which are prepared using rice as the main ingredient.

What to explore at Laman Padi Langkawi?

Sprawling 14.28 acres in a natural ambiance, Laman Padi Langkawi serves to promote eco-tourism. Thus, a huge segment of 8.6 acres are being preserved as paddy field. Just a few steps from the entrance and the huge paddy field will lie in front of your eyes.

Apart from merely looking at the green paddy, visitors will also get to learn more about their specific species as those paddies are being named accordingly. Besides, scarecrows are also being placed in the middle of the field in order to make the scenery looks more like the actual one.

During certain time slots, there will be a specialized tour guide that brings you around the farm. The most exciting part is where the guide will bring you down to the paddy field (or known as Garden of Variety) to experience the actual way of planting paddy. Visitors will be given some paddies and the guide will teach them the appropriate ways of planting paddies in the mud. Though the field is wet and muddy, it is indeed a hands-on and fun experience not to be missed!

Not really advertised, but really worth going there. The Laman Padi is located close to the beach. We went there and walked around which was nice. After some minutes we were asked if we wanna have a guided tour. This was really great! The guy showed us so many plants, herbs, fruits and explained us a lot of things on food, rice plantation etc. really nicely and with passion - he loves his job. We really admired the effort he made. The guide spent almost two hours with us! He hasn't asked us for money, we even had to ask for the possibility of making a donation. Absolute must if being on Langkawi!
