Why La Sal at Casa Del Mar is special ?
If you are looking for a romantic dinner having your toes dipped into the sand soaking in the latent heat of the sun while watching the magnificent sunset and having an exotic cocktail, you can consider La Sal at Casa Del Mar Hotel in Pantai Cenang, you can't go wrong.
While there is also inside dining that starts at the room next to the piano and the wine bar with terracotta walls offering nice friendly yet classy ambience, the dining area extends to a canopy covered patio and then to the coveted area of open beach under the shadows of the swaying palms.
Each white linen table on the sand with flickering torches is a secluded heaven for the diners. No wonder the hotel is named Casa Del Mar which stands for 'Home by the sea' in Spanish. Note that while La Sal is popularly known and referred as the restaurant, it actually is the cocktail bar and La Luna at Casa Del Mar is actually the restaurant. However, it is fondly and popularly known as the La Sal dining.
Some must-try dishes:
Australian Lamb Rack
A crispy soft shell crab
Thai basil scented pomelo salad

Tips for you
Casa del Mar is a truly wonderful boutique hotel where standards and service are absolutely first class and these qualities have been carried through to the dining experience at their al la carte restaurant, La Sal. We dined here on four occasions during our two week stay and have to say that every meal we had was fantastic. What complimented the food was that on three of the evenings we were blessed with clear skies so we could dip our feet in the sand, sit under a star filled sky, savour the food delights and sample a glass or two of well priced and flavoursome wine.... Heaven! There is a well balanced menu offering something for all tastes but our favourites are the soft shell crab entree (and we both usually hate crab) followed by the rack of lamb which is the tenderist we have ever had. During our stay, the recently appointed new chef introduced a new menu choice which thankfully still has our favourites on it but also has other dishes which we look forward to trying when we return. Service for us is just right being not too hurried and not too slow, the experience here is not just about the food but soaking up the wonderful setting and ambiance. If we wanted an express meal then we would choose to go to MacDonalds! The staff are simply delightful ( as are all of the staff at Casa) and they really strive to please. We witnessed a very rude couple agressively verbally attacking Halim over some issue and in front of other guests and he and the other nearby staff were clearly very upset and took the criticsm very personally. Yes service is not top speed but this is Langkawi and if you want food on the table in 5 minutes then Langkawi is not for you. Life on this island is about chilling and getting off of the rapidly moving treadmill life at home and spending relaxed quality time with friends/your partner whilst enjoying the delights of this beautiful island. Cost is high end for Cenang but in our opinion it is good value for the food and experience. As I write this review it is taking me back to those wonderful evenings at La Sal and I am already counting the days to when we return in November. Sincere thanks to everyone for superb meals and a wonderful and memorable holiday and many best wishes to Robert in his new venture. Margaret and Keviin from the UK
worth the price as it has good service and the best view in Langkawi! Enjoy the sunset at 7-7.30pm, it's superb! :)
I decided to pay La Sal a visit after hearing many good things about it, and I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant is part of Casa Del Mar hotel, which has a rustic feel to it. Unfortunately, we didn't make a reservation so all the good tables that stretched out to the beach were taken. Although the restaurant was entirely in an open area, we asked for a non-smoking table and was given a nice table on the patio that overlooked the garden. The restaurant is connected to the wine room, and from where we were sitting, we could look into the piano room and library. The atmosphere at La Sal was, much like the rest of Langkawi, very relaxed and friendly. The service here is excellent, with attentive, quick and knowledgeable staff. The seafood here was so fresh! One of the best done salmon I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and flakey, and not at all dry. The ratatouille had a robust flavour that paired well with the polenta, which was a little bland, although I'm not sure if that's how polenta tastes. The coffee was a let-down though, seeming more of a "coffee machine" type of latte than a "barista crafted" latte. Some might say that the food here is pricey, and rightly so. But for the freshness and taste of the food, and the excellent service, I would say it's rather worth it.
