Why La Pistoche Swimming Pool is special ?

La Pistoche Swimming Pool and Bar in Luang Prabang is located in Ban Phone Pheng village nearest to Phouvao and Photisan junctions. This isn't a hotel, it's a bar with a pool and a favourite hangout of backpackers and the local Francophone expat community. It used to just have a small plunge pool, but since November 2012, La Pistoche now has a second, much larger swimming pool with a jacuzzi and swim-up pool bar, and lots of space for lounging around and soaking up the sun. They have happy hour from noon til 7pm and occasionally host live music concerts and shows. A small menu with lao food, burgers, pizza, and pasta is available.

Good points: Looks like it does in picture Pool bar Two pools, a big one and smaller one Decent food. Including crinkle fries Good choice in a hot day Bad points: RIP OFF. By Laos standards this is expensive. You pay 30,000 kip entry, then 50,000 Kipp deposit for a key ring, literally a key ring. You can't order food or drink without the key ring, but it is not clear if you get the deposit back if you do not order anything, otherwise why have this deposit system in place. So you pay 80,000 before you can get in. 5,000 to rent a towel. Separate menu for Lao people and one in English, where the prices on the English menu are inflated. Not enough beds for people. Expensive Menu. 24,000 just for fries. Really expensive for Lao. A good day out, but really expensive for what it is. It is not that big a pool either, if the locals tell you it is really big, it's not and is over crowded.
