Why L’Usine Cafe is special ?

L'Usine, part cafe, part boutique, part gallery, is a great spot for a coffee or a light lunch or a relaxed dinner - and a chance to mix it with Saigon's young creative set. L'Usine's cafeterias serve European cafe classics such as salads, sandwiches and pastas, as well as city-famous coffee and cakes, and a killer all-day breakfast menu. In the evenings, they have a dinner menu served at The Kitchen at L'Usine Dong Khoi. Set in a relaced and informal environment, The Kitchen menu draws on European falovours and techniques, with the odd nod to Asia and North Africa. The result is delicious unpretentious food made using top quality ingredients.

Must try dishes:

Mushroom and olive stuffed chicken salad/sandwich

Mixed vegetable salad with feta cheese

Omelette with ham and spinach and mozzarella

Vietnamese caramelised pork sandwich

L'Usine is in two locations. I dined at the one near the Opera House. It is a bit difficult to find as it is located down a lane and then upstairs. The laneways has a lot of artwork. Just ask a local if you can't find it. The menu is diverse and has lots of delicious options such as Calamari salad, the most delicious stuffed chicken and for vegetarians - a great chickpea falafel dish with tomatoes that taste like tomatoes grown in your backyard...so delicious. The only odd thing is that they have a Happy Hour but you can't share the drinks as they will only give you your second drink once first is consumed. To be honest, this did not detract from the night but we were there for a quick meal before the opera so we had to consume the first drink fairly quickly in order to be served the second. If you are a large group I suggest you reserve a table if you want to sit together. One other thing to mention is that the restaurant is in two sections. One is near the staircase which has a lovely out door balcony area and the other room is located further down the hallway. The second room also has some fashion and homewares. You can really have an enjoyable evening here. They also have decaf coffee which is hard to find to the city generally.

The kitchen area is less crowded, more intimate. The cafeteria area has the shop, good music playing. Nice cafe to relax or have a meal in.
