Why Kungs Cafe is special ?

On a quiet lane, Kung’s Café Lao is an iconic Vientiane experience.  The surroundings are modest but unique, the tables are small, the seating is on wooden stools, the decorations are full of simplicity and character

It’s hard to know what to love most about the place — the potent Lao coffee, best enjoyed with condensed milk and ice ; the sticky rice pancakes topped with fresh mango ; the Muzak-, plant- and basket-filled courtyard; or the family who runs the place and its eloquent patriarch, 70-year-old J. B., and his fantastic tales about the changing face of Vientiane through the decades.

How to get to Kungs Cafe?

Best directions would be to walk past the Presidential Palace on Fa Ngun Road and turn left onto Rue Simeuang (Lao Securities Commission Building). Go down this street and the alleyway to Kungs will be on the left. Kungs will be at the end of alley.

Delicious food in a beautiful setting. She's signposted from the main road so not too hard to find.

Come early. Walk down the narrow alley way. If you get the wrong alley, the friendly little old lady in the neighbouring one will point the way.

Bit hard to find but well worth it. Great soups and breakfasts in a lovely setting surrounded by plants.

You have to be persistent and dogged to find Kung’s Cafe, but the effort is repaid a thousandfold. In fact, I eat here very often and I take many, many guests here and the verdict is always the same: excellent. There is nothing pretentious about Kung’s. The surroundings are modest but unique, the tables are small, the seating is on wooden stools, the decorations are full of simplicity and character, and the proceedings are occasionally interrupted as motorcycles pass through the central area between the tables. The menu does not vary from day to day or month to month, but the food is always excellent, presented with care and love, and it is always tasty. When I take friends there they look at the menu and always ask ‘what is good?’ and I always tell them ‘It is all good.’

A small family business cafe, local people seem not to know about this cafe. Very quite and friendly place. Their pancake is a must try item. One big pancake, served with fresh mango and honey!.
