How to get to Koh Poda Island?

If you want to get to Koh Poda you have no choice than taking a boat. You can find some ticket booths near the beach of Ao Nang, where you can easily buy a cheap ticket for a longtail boat, which departs just at the very same beach. For a return ticket you will have to pay about 300 Baht for each person and the trip takes about 25 minutes. As soon as you purchase the ticket you will have to wait near the boats until there are 6 to 8 persons for the transport. Normally, it doesn’t take too long because a lot of people do the same trips to the surrounding islands.

Come to pier little earlier than 8 a.m. and buy ticket at boatsmen. The earlier you get to island, the longer you enjoy its quietness, at about 10 am hundreds of people start coming there...

While at Ao Nang I joined a 4-island travel package (longtail boat) for 380 bahts (high season more expensive, you should be able to get same package for 300 baht during low season) for a full day tour that commenced from 8.30 am till 3 pm.I was picked up at my hotel together with more than 30 others along the way in a `songthaew' truck and conveyed to the beach at Nopparat Thara Pier. About 30 of us boarded a longtail `ferry' and we proceeded out on our journey to the four islands. Poda Island was the first island we went. The subsequent islands were chicken island, Tup Island and Phra Nang Bay. We have snorkeling at chicken island, lunch at Tup Island and visited the Penis Cave at Phra Nang Bay. We were alloted about 40 mins to an hour for each island visit.Poda Island is one of the most beautiful pristine island I have seen. I was mesmerized by the stunning scenery and gorgeous seaview, turquoise and azure sea water and long stretch of white sandy beach. Some of us chose to relax lying on the beach for sunbath while I went around taking photographs with my digital camera. We were there early and the beach was not crowded. There were only two or three longtail boats anchored at the beach giving you an unobstructed clear view of the surrounding island and sea. The weather was hot but you can take your rest at the shelter nearby, I brought along some titbits and cookie and it was a pleasure sipping the coffee relaxing my mind and appreciating the pristine beauty of the surrounding scenery.I strongly recommend that visitors take up this 4 island package when visiting Krabi. Of course, it goes without saying that you have to negotiate for a better deal before you take up the package. Two German girls on board same long tail tour paid 600 bahts while another German couple paid 500 bahts for the same package. So, you need to bargain for the best price.

A very nice island, white sand, nice beach and outlook. A nice place to take a swim then relax under the shade of the trees behind the beach and take in the scenery. Drinks can be purchased from a small shop nearby. The problem is all tours use the island for lunch, so it gets very busy around that time, try and avoid that time. Try getting a long tail from Aonang either early morning or afternoon that way you can enjoy a truly lovely place.

We visited this island by hiring a longtail boat from Ao Nang and based on my experience that would be the best way to visit the islands near Ao Nang - it provides you more comfort, can spend time in a relaxed manner and also can get to the islands earlier than others. Try getting here by around 8.30 - 9 to avoid the crowds.Very picturesque and the photos we took here were very similar to Maldives (we've been to Maldives a year back). Sunscreen is a must as it is quite hot after 10AM and you would get tanned heavily without sunscreen.

Very nice beach. Buy food from some longtail boats, cheap. But the ice cream sold on thebeach is way over priced. Also there are alot of flies on, even in the sun...really irritating when relaxing.
