Tips for you
Koh Yao Yai is perfect if you want a quiet stay away from the tourists, in an area that is still very traditional. The people there are extremely kind and trustful.they will wave hello in the streets and always speak to you kindly. Some are still unused of seeing foreigners and you'll see particularly children staring at you in the street in a very cute way. Cause we look kinda funny for them ;) The local food you can get there is exquisite, particularly the seafood. Most of the business are run by family and you get often served by the young ones. We rented a scooter and explored the island a bit. The beaches are empty and it feels like this entire paradise is for you. Walking along the beach was very enjoyable in Loh Pared Bay. 90% of the population of koh yao yai is Muslim. However no dressing restriction is asked. The people are gentle and peaceful. Just be respectful and don't walk around half naked, but tanktop are fine and bikinis on the beaches are fine too. We stayed 3 nights on the island at the end of our trip and it was the perfect end after the hectic Phi phi island.
